About Our Program

Shawnee Presbyterian Preschool has been an important part of the mission outreach program of Shawnee Presbyterian Church since its founding in 1970.

The Preschool Committee is the governing body of the preschool.  The committee's members are parents and church members whose purpose it is to establish and maintain all the policies and regulations of the preschool.

Our church membership is committed to providing an appropriate environment for young children - an environment which provides the educational and spiritual foundations upon which their lives will be built.

Because both church members and the preschool staff are committed to enhancing each child's spiritual growth, we are members of the Christian Preschool Association.  This organization provides workshops to enhance our teaching skills in both the spiritual and developmental aspects of our curriculum.

Our goal is to provide our children with the academic, emotional, physical, and spiritual foundations that will enhance self-worth, confidence, and enthusiasm throughout their lives.

Our Developmental Goals and Objectives

Develop the child's ability to make his/her own decisions and plan his/her actions.

  • Foster academic and social skills which will expand the child's world.
  • Develop the child's ability to express himself/herself; to dramatize, and graphically represent his/her experiences and to communicate these experiences to others.
  • Develop the child's ability to apply the reasoning capacity he has developed in a wide range of naturally occurring situations.
  • Encourage a spirit of inquiry and curiosity.
  • Stimulate personal creative expression, as well as acceptance of, and an appreciation for, the creative work of others.
  • Enhance development of fine and gross motor skills.
  • Generate self-awareness, self-confidence, and self-competence.
